Painting Study
This study is quite old and frankly remains one of my beloved possessions. The premise was very simple: choose a painting and then calculate the percentages of each hue, shade, and tint in order to represent them in an original composition. I chose Railroad Sunset by Edward Hopper (1929) because of the amazing depiction of a sunset over a railroad. For my piece, I did my best to guess the amounts of each color and also replicate them. I decided to use horizontal lines and flowing shapes just like in the original. Note: please go see the actual painting at whatever museum it may be, I promise you are going to like it.
